Ibrahim S. I. Abuhaiba



Biographical Summary


Prof. Abuhaiba is a professor at the Islamic University of Gaza, Computer Engineering Department. He obtained his Master of Philosophy and Doctorate of Philosophy from Britain in the field of document understanding and pattern recognition. His research interests include computer vision, image processing, document analysis and understanding, pattern recognition, artificial intelligence, information and network security. Furthermore, Prof. Abuhaiba is open-minded and can do and supervise research in all fields of computer engineering, computer science, information systems, and related fields. Prof. Abuhaiba presented important theorems and more than 30 algorithms in document understanding. He published several original contributions in the field of document understanding in well-reputed international journals and conferences. Benefits of Prof. Abuhaiba’s Research to Society and Industry


Developing input devices capable of capturing data at its source has been one of the primary objectives of the data processing industry. Developing of efficient document understanding systems is an effort in this direction. The understanding ability of such systems not only provides solutions to data entry problems but also it gives a very flexible and economic means to use computers to solve various real-life problems that might not be solved otherwise. Recent advances in office automation and rising data entry cost have created more than ever needs for efficient and reliable automatic understanding systems of machine-printed and handwritten documents.


One final target of Prof. Abuhaiba is to design efficient and cheap document understanding systems. All citizens and entities are expected users of such systems including: press companies, schools, universities, institutions, companies, organizations, ministries, individuals: lawyers, teachers, engineers, students, governmental staffs, journalists, and anybody who wants to take a printed document and put some or all of it into their computer in editable form without having to do the retyping staff.


Therefore, machine understanding of documents is the main problem of focus in my research. Prof. Abuhaiba has spent more than 20 years doing research to solve this problem. He developed tens of algorithms in the field.

عمل أ.د. أبو هيبة في مجال الجدولة العربية. وقد أدى جهده المتواصل في هذا المجال إلى تطوير  البرنامج التطبيقي جداول  الحل العملي والجذاب لمشكلة الجدولة العربية ملبيا لحاجات العرب من المجدولين والمدرسين والمدراء على حد سواء. جداول نظام تفاعلي يعمل على الحاسبات الشخصية وهو الوسيلة السهلة لإنشاء الجداول، جدولة الأحداث، وإدارة الموارد. وبغض النظر عن نوع المعهد فإن جداول يمكن أن يساعد في توفير الوقت والمال عندما يستخدم في بناء الجداول. وحيث أن جداول يستطيع أن يستخدمه أي عدد من المستخدمين في آن واحد فإنه يمكن استخدامه في أي معهد مهما كان حجمه – من مدرسة أو كلية ذات قسم واحد إلى جامعة كبيرة متعددة المواقع. عندما تستخدم جداول لبناء الجداول فإنه يصبح بحوزتك مجموعة كبيرة من الأدوات المفيدة والقوية مثل منقح الجداول، نافذة الحدث، مرشدات الجداول، فحص التعارض، التحكم بالصلاحيات، خيارات الطباعة، التوريد والتصدير، والكثير الكثير. تم فحص جداول بدقة وشمولية عالية على حاسبات وأوساط متعددة وقد ثبت أنه قوي ومستقر ومتجانس حتى لو كانت الجداول المنشأة كبيرة والموارد المستخدمة كثيرة.
