GISS 2310 Introduction to Remote Sensing

Course Outline pdf

This course will introduce students to the theory and application of remote sensing. The topic is designed for students from a wide range of backgrounds and will discuss remote sensing principles. It will consider the nature of electromagnetic radiation as well as its interaction with the atmosphere and earth surface features. It will also include studying the range of platforms and sensors available, data sources, and field sampling. Moreover, it involves the treatment of error and distortion within remotely sensed imagery.  The emphasis will be on problem solving challenges presented by the characteristics, properties, and potential for analysis, of raster based, remote sensed, data acquisition systems.
